finalizing on a vcr/dvd combo?

I have the MAGNAVOX MWR20V6 and have gotten some good years out of it. I first only used it to record shows to vcr. Just this Feb, 2011 however I decided I wanted to dub all of these vcrs tapes to dvd. I have read a lot of blogs and YOU ALL ARE SINGING TO THE CHOIR. I have had a lot of the same problems. From the dvd stopping in the middle of a dub with that error message to the biggest issue just happening a month ago. The unit just went out--the power still comes on but no life anywhere else. I paid $60 to a electronics repair store only to be told less than an hour later that the micro processor went out and Magnavox no longer made the part. What? Now I have all of these dvds that need to be finalized and no dvd recorder to do it on. My question: Can a dvd be finalized on another dvd recorder. Can I purchase the exact same unit and finalize my dvds that way. Amazon has these same used models for sale but I don't want to waste my money if the same model is not gonna work to finalize these dvd's. PLEASE HELP
