why is my mower smoking?

i was working on my sunrunner and at first it didnt smoke and i went to start it again it smoked so bad it didnt clear for a long time it is a simplicity sunrunner with bottom tanks 8 hp

Did you turn it on its side or raise it up to work on the blade ? If so you may have ran some of the crankcase oil into the cylinder and past the rings in which it would smoke like a mosquito fogger until the excess oil is burned off. ITshould be OK after that
