what to fix in the gearbox?

This may not be a box fault as when a fault is detected a fault lamp comes on and car gets third gear, The engine may vot be giving full power,this will delay shifts as revs are not high enough for shift point relative to throttle posistion and road speed. Check for carpet under throttle pedal or blocked exhaust.
