recharging problem welkin potable dvd player?

I have a welkin portable dvd player never used so I am trying to charge the battery for the first time. the charge light stays on red (for charging) but then changes to green way before it can possibly be charged so I take the lead out and re insert and the light turns red once again for a while then green once again. Any ideas?????
