Mend Magnavox MSR90D6 Recording Going Recorder

recording sound on my Magnavox msr 90d6?

When going from audio cassette recorder to DVD audio input I do not get sound. I am using a DVD-R to record on. If I hook up coax cable I get sound but it is not stereo. What am I doing wrong.
