McCulloch Virginia hedge trimmer wont start?

I have just fitted a new fuel line and now the primer bulb will not fill with petrol, seems to be pulling petrol up to the carb but none is getting to the cylinder, if I remove the plug and put a small amount of petrol straight in the cylinder it runs for a bit. Could the system be air locked.
