the locking plastic thing that holds the waste container has snapped off?

the plastic lever thingy, that holds the waist container in place has broken clean off, i tried using heavy duty tape to hold the container on but it does not make a perfect seal, so it picks up very little water. i have only used the machine twice in the last 3 years so it seams criminal to have to chuck it out for such a little but crucial piece.
quoted £99 by online repair company, it only cost £99 originally. wonder whether superglue would fix it back together, trouble is this little lever is put under a lot of pressure, i guess its the part that breaks the most, so we all have to buy a new one? any ideas?
