how do I clean the cyclone on a dyson?

Best way is to remove the 3 top screws, very carefully prize the top off keeping it completely straight, then extract the top and flap operating rod out enough to be able to unscrew the operating rod from the top. The whole assembly can be cleaned with a dry brush and compressed air. You can dunk it in the bath, but you would have to wait a few days to ensure that the cyclone was completely dry. Ignore the 3 inner screws as the cyclone is hot-glued together and the inner screws serve no function other than hold the unit together whilst the glue dries.
