replacing the tailgate strut on a renault scenic?

It is just a ball and socket fitting either end which requires a flat head screwdriver to lever the band on the back of the fitting back, before pulling the strut off. The new ones just push back onto the ball stud

However I think the lower end fitting is behind the light cluster, so you can either remove the cluster or get a long bladed screwdriver to reach the band.
