How can I fix hammer pipes?

I recently had the tap at the mains meter replaced by the water board and I replaced a tap in the bathroom and since then every time I turn on a tap in the house I get a loud banging of the pipes, can you help. I tried turning the mains off then letting all the water out of the pipes then turn the mains back on, I'm lost now
