Mend Riccar 6500 SR Vacuum Repair Foot Switch

How do I open a 6500 SR to get to the foot switch?

The switch on our 6500 SR must be hit hard with my hand to turn on the vacuum but just push it normally to turn it off. How do I get access to the switch?
