My shower pump keeps surging?

I have just fitted a salamander shower pump and when it is in use every so often the water dies off for a second or two as if there is air in the pipework. It does not do this when the shower is full hot or full cold. The pipework is up and over from the pump, do i need some air vents in the loft. Many thanks Andy
