Ford 8240 three point hitch?

the three point hitch works only sporadicly. sometimes you have to use the outside remote switch to make it come down. it is not a continuous problem, somedays it works fine somedays it doesn't. we have changed the potentiometer on the lift handle and on the three point itself. It should not be a fluid issue because when it does work it lifts a heavy load just fine.
