drivers window sounds like it's come off it's clips or whatever holds it in. motor works but makes horrible noise as it's obviously not pulling window up/down. what is likely problem & how do i fix this. i can slide window up & down if i open door & place a hand on each side of window & pull it up/down. i don't know a lot about cars but i'm mechanically-minded & have more tools than god!
When this happened on my Golf (twice) the winding gear had broken with repeated stress.
The mechanism without the drive motor sits on a metal plate - cost about £50. I got a mobile car lock-smith to supply the parts and repair mine for another 50 on top.
It took him about an hour each time...
