cd player wont work?

i dont seem to have any power coming through the 12v ignition cable (red one) there is power coming through the yellow one is is permant live, i connected the red one direct to the battery which then makes the cd player work but that was only for testing purposes any ideas please i have also checked the fuses which seem ok...please help
