I today bought a C3 citreon automatic. When I start the engine and put my foot on the break (as I have been told to do) I try to put the gearstick from P to D but it will not move, it locks itself, hence I cannot go anywhere, how do I get the gearstick to move and not stay locked?
this is the shift interlock not releasing. Does the display read correctly? Also check on top of the gearbox to see if the inner cable has popped off the ball. If the range switch is in any other position than P or if the switch is faulty (common) then the lever will not release. I think you will find a release button under the shift lever cover.

hi jay, this happened on my jag, it was the switch that is operated by the brake pedal which had got stuck in, i dont know if citreons have the same idea but its worth a look.
