what is a variator ?

sounds like the bulbs have blown in certain places mate check them all out and replace any blown ones.they have a few in there for each area.

thanks adam it was worn piston rings on the pista. my ovetto has one more problem. the dash only lights up but none of the displays work on it neither does the spedo.

im pretty sure the pista was made by ADLY which is a far eastern scooter and quad manufacturer.regarding the running of it its a fuelling problem or a reed valve or crankseal problem i would say,most likeley to be a blocked main jet though as you say it idles ok saying that a busted reed petal will do that too so check both.i take it the fuel tank has fresh fuel in it if not totally empty it and fill it back up with fresh fuel.

yes thanks adam. i have another question. i have a 50cc scooter it is 98 and is called a pista. who makes it and were does it come from.? also it wont take the trottle. it will idle great but thats all i tried coil ,plug and new petrol. same story.

I think you mean ovetto ?if so its made by mbk which are basically the same as yamaha mbk is no longer imported into england and used to be imported from france.yamaha equivelant to the ovetto is the yamaha neos have a look at a picture of one and you will see what i mean,the variator is behind the transmission cover on the left of the engine as you sit on the bike.take the cover off and you will see a round thing on the left with a belt going around the middle of it the rounds thing is the variator it basically controls the gearing of the scooter and this type of transmission is kniown as c.v.t or constant variable transmission they used to have it on a car called a daf variomatic.hope that helps you.adam
