if you have cleaned with cd cleaner and still not working
Could be a worn laser unit.
you could try inserting dvd switch off. turning ps2 upside down
then switch back on. this will allow the laser to drop near the dvd (no damage will be done) . if it then plays better its a good sign laser is worn

yes your playstation needs cleaning by an cd cleaner you can buy them from block buster and places like that.
