how to stop the dial clicking around?

my washer will not click down from the wash sign onto the next 1 day, it will load water and turn around for a bit and then the dial will start clocking all the way around. I have to stop it let it click to open and then start again. it will however click from rinse onto spin. was told memory problem and should re set it self but it hasnts. also today the lights are on but no water is coming into mthe washer
