Found the low pressure fuel pump, it's on the 'chassis rail' above the RH drive shaft, anti-roll bar, steering rack, suspension arm & is really in-accessible. If they had tried a bit harder it would be impossible to access the pump. Whoever designed this car should be made to change this pump until they die!
The wheel arch plastic liners & engine plastic under-tray have to be removed, then the pump can be changed, the fuel hoses are secured with crimped hose clips, so you'll have to use new hoses & jubilee clips etc., the pump is held in a bracket which you have to un-bolt from the chassis, but the suspension , steering rack etc. obscures the pump.
I had the car jacked up with the RH front wheel etc. removed & it took 2 hours grappling to remove & 2 hours or so to refit. The pump cost me £95!!! + £25.50 for a new fuel filter & £3 for the hoses & jubilee clips, never again!!!
After I changed the fuel pump, I noticed sparking above the gearbox area on the engine. I found that one of the uninsulated terminals on the heater valve was shorting out on the oil-soaked engine breather hose which was sagging enough to touch the terminal so it was tracking to earth & melting the hose & creating sparks!!! Setting fire to Renaults seems like a good idea :-)
