Mend Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop Battery

my battery?

My charger keeps my computer working but when I release the charger from my new battery for the inspiron 1525 the computer has no juice. How long should I have charged the new battery? I had it plugged in overnight. When I removed the charger the computer will not turn on.
