what's wrong with my hotpoint ctd00p tumble dryer?

My tumble dryer has stopped working. there is power to it the timer is ok but it just won't start. when you press the start button it makes a buzzing noise as though it is trying to start but then the buzz fades and goes dead. Was told it could be the timer so have replaced it but to no avail. still the same.
