How to fix singer foot pedal?

Hi need some help to fix my daughters sewing machine. The foot pedal and the plug are connected to the sewing machine by a kettle-like connection but round holes. Power goes to the machine but the pedal does not work. It springs up and down but I think a part has fallen out the pedal as there seems to be a horizontal springy contact to the left of the pedal that does not connect when the pedal is pressed. There is also a contact to the right that has a spring that is pressed down when you press the pedal. There is a bar that lowers when the pedal is pressed and makes a contact but not sure what for. Not sure if this makes sense but any help greatly received.
