Leisure Kensington EL Gas Cooker - Oven knob very stiff. ?

Can turn oven on with very stiff oven knob, but very difficult to turn off. Last time disconnected gas and turned off. Now can't use oven! any answers, before we buy a new cooker!

We have had the same problem for the last couple of weeks, i cant turn it on or off, husband can but only with pliers, been looking at cookers today. My cookers 10 yrs old, so not so bad though i cant get one with the same oven size, they are smaller one way or another. Good Luck.
