will my riello 40G2S run without a hydraulic jack and damper?

my riello 40g2s stopped working, it is located outside in a boiler house,a plumber came out and replaced the oil pump but he also took away the hydraulic jack and damper, he informed me the burner didn't need it and it would run just fine, will this cause any problems in the future ?
