Mend Window Double Glazed

Cost of Replacing a Glass Panel of uPVC Window?

One of the glass panel of the double glazed uPVC window is broken and I am looking to replace it. Wondering how much would be the average cost of it, if I get it done by some professional and also how easy it is to DIY?

you can get units which are filled with argon gas which gives it a better thermal quality but these are mainly used in the commercial sector, however some companies are using them as a selling point. I`m well in with a glazing manufacturer and have been told that the extra cost incurred by the customer in relation to the money saved on heating bills, it would take a life-time for them to equal out.
your units will not be argon filled so there would be no point in changing one without changing them all.

Thanks for the advise Levilewy. It doesn't sound like a messy job at all, guess it needs to be done a bit carefully. One of my friend told me that the replacement would cost me some £300 because it's a specialized job and they use some kind of gas to fill the space between the 2 glass panels.

if you go to a double glazing co. the cost would be around £80 for a small unit fitted. probably more if it`s bigger, `k` glass, toughened, patterned. it`s relatively easy to change a unit. new frames are internally beaded and it`s just a case of taking out the beads and changing the unit. with externally beaded frames you first have to remove the rubber gasket on the inside (a rigid scraper will do). if a double-sided tape has been used then the unit has to be cut out by use of a stanley knife then the beads removed.
also you will need to know the thickness of the unit as this is important, eg. 20, 22, 24, 28mm. the norm now is 28mm.
go to a glass manufacturer and not a window company.
