Vauxhall Zafira Petrol 1.6 Indicator light short circuit?

When I have my headlights on, and indicate, then there is a short circuit in the column somewhere which causes the headlights to go to full beam. Pulling the indicator stalk towards you stops this, sometimes, a crackling sound comes out too. Is this easy to fix?
