How can I fix my Mountfield 35 classic lawnmower's drive cable?

I have a Mountfield 35 classic walk behind lawnmower. The gear (drive) cable has broken. I have a replacement but am having difficulty in putting in. Any ideas please?
I don't have a manual but need to know in words of one syllable how to do it.
