cars not starting?

i have a vauxhall corsa c, its oil light came on as it was making a noise, so a pulled over to check it, it says the oil was fine, so i took the cap off and it was smoking, a let it cool down n started car up again, but it then cut out n im not getting a kick out of it now, but prior to that, on friday night the roads were flooded so some water may have got into something..
