The ECR trips on the house main fuse panel. If i disconnect the heater element it does not. If I measure the impedence of the heater i get a 1 on my testing showing there is no resistance. Is this correct? i would have expected a high resistance ( so measuring 0 ). If thats the case why doesn't the fuse blow. I assume sometiming on the positive or negative is leaking to earth. would a new heater unit fix the problem?
Thanks. Its my feeling also. I'll price one up and work out if its worth the effort compared to a new dryer. It s certainly the heater assembly at fault. It has no resistance.

On my Digital Multimeter a figure 1 on the resistance range indicates open circuit - infinite resistance - when the probes are touched together the reading shows close to Zero.
A working 1kw heater on a 230V supply will have a resistance of about 50 ohms 2kw about 26 ohms.
Your heating element appears to be open circuit with a short to earth.
The fuse may blow but the trip beats it to the line.
My guess is that a new element is needed to solve the problem.
