Problem with washing machine drum - what is wrong?

My washing machine drum is making a cracking noice when it is on a spin cycle - or even when i spin it round when taking the washinh out. What is the problem?

The machine it self is 5 years old, and up to now i have not had any problems with it.

This sounds like a broken drum shaft or bearing issue.Either way its a big job and an expensive one to get someone in to repair.5yrs from a machine is probably as good as it get so may be best to call it a day and buy a new one????
