Hotpoint Aquarius CDT40 - Problems?

Even though the water container is empty -- the indicator light to "Empty Water" remains on and the tumber drier stops after a few minuites - instead of a full drying cycle
Sometime the "Empty Water" light stays on permanently -- and the tumbler dryer wont start.
