Good question....the manual says to start by putting the line into a hole. The holes are all too small.

Pull straight as above but first line up the protruded line on the tap button with the protruded line on the base of the weed eater.
now pull, yes it is stubborn keep pulling it will come out it has a spring mechanisms.

Remove spool by firmly pulling on the tap button. Use 0.0065 line. Remember to grasp that spool and pull it up! http://72.3.225.179/manuals/545117522e.pdf
