I have an old 1919 craftsman. Kitchen windows have been painted shut for who knows how long. Is there a trick to getting them open again beyond a good utility knife?
Leslie, there is a tool called a WINDOW ZIPPER. It looks like a flat iron with teeth. You lay it flat against the window sash and move it up and down against the painted frame until you have cut into the built up paint. This tool is very inexpensive and fits the job perfectly.
