Mend Vulcan Global 450 Dishwasher Electrical Repair

How can I fix my Vulcan Dishlex Global 450 dishwasher light compartment?

The light compartment in the top of my dishwasher is filling with water during the wash and when the door is opened on completion it short circuits the electrical circuit. Is this problem solvable by simply replacing the "light compartment lens and globe"? I have tried to seal the compartment with silastic but it only seems to work for a few washes before malfunctioning again.
