car dvd players?

Hi, have a Dolby digital Venturer car DVD player. The base unit power lead connection into the unit is not connecting securely. Can we try mending or reccommend anyone who can? I am determined to win on this one and not get rid to but a new one and fill up landfill! It is a DC IN 12v entry. The black flexi part one inch from connection on the lead could also be the culprit. Any help much appreciated.
