Mend Vauxhall Zafira Engine Noise Started

Help!I own a 55 reg zafira with a whistling engine noise!?

when the engine is started there is a high pitched whistling sound coming from the left hand side of the rocker cover. There is a vacuum tube at the back of this, leading to the inlet manifold. When this was removed while the engine was running the noise disappeared.
Can anyone help.
