Engine Management Fault on Renault Clio - I think?

SOS - My 2005 plate Clio will fire up when bumped, then dies mid drive. It won't fire again for about 20 mins then it will bump start but repeats the same again. Its not the battery, or the alternator (we don't think), we think its the engine management system. We are stuck in spain with our dogs and would like to get home asap without forking out a fortune to renault just to diagnose a simple problem. My father had a similar problem which turned out to be a lose connection on the catalyst. Has anyone had a similar problem or maybe able to suggest a solution that it cost effective?
