Nissan Micra Tempest 2002 reg fob not working, key locks and then becomes ?

The fob no longer works so I use the key to lock the vehicle. Sometimes, but not always, I return to find the door unlocked. Other times the warning lights will start flashing when the car has been parked and not used for a few days. Its quite bizarre!
