Can anyone tell me whether my car has a timing belt or a timing chain? A friend is fixing a problem on the car and he suggested we replace the timing belt at the same time as we're on 90,000 miles. However, when I tried to purchase a timing belt kit the guy said to check to see if the car has a chain rather than a belt. Can anyone help?
Tracey, it's a chain driven camshaft and pump and as such there is no mileage that they should be replaced just when they get noisey but if you are having other work done in that area then it would be good practice to replace it and a new tensioner
