How to replace rev dial wire mk1 clio 1.4?

my rev dial kinda works wen it wants and i was told the wire maybe be broken inside the outer casing so was just wondering wat type of wire and how do i change it so possibly my rev dial will work permenantly? my car is a renault clio mk1 n reg 1995 1.4.
