Brake lights stay on when side lights on and engine does not stop when key ?

An odd problem, when my lights are switched on the brake lights are on constantly. When lights are off if I press brake pedal the nearside side light comes on. To top it all if I have my lights switched on and remove the ignition key the engine runs on till I switch lights off. Confused you will be!!!!!
K - good catch, it wasn't the wrong bulb, but one filiment had blown and was bridging the contacts. Thats a pint I owe you.

sounds like you have got a wrong bulb in one of your brake/tail lights and is shorting from brake light to sidelight.have you changed bulb recently,-for brake light you need a 21/5w bulb which is a double contact with offset pins [make sure you put it in correctly]

Should have added that it is a 2003 Peugeot 206 1.4 Diesel.
