How do I fix my Homelite string trimmer's flex shaft cable?

The flexible drive shaft for my HomeLite string trimmer broke near the bottom of the shaft. I have removed the cable from the motor end and pulled out whats left of it, but cannot figure out how to get to the broken end so that the flex shaft cable can be replaced. How do I remove it?
