Mend GE Spacemaker Door Good Inside

ge spacemaker door handle?

I followed the very good instructions that required me to separate the outside rim and the inside rim and I was able to get to the screws, take the old handle off and put a new one on. It worked. Problem, now when I shut the door the power to the microwave comes on and there is no way to shut it off except by opening the door. I assume it has something to do with the latches, but I don't know what else to do.
