How can I replace the belt in my RCA RS2600?

Whilst playing a tape in my unit, the sound wavers and
is "run down." That is, everythings in slow motion.

hi,you need to take the back of the unit and have a look at the belt or belts(over a period of time all rubber belts stretch and cause slow play/rewind or fast forward). You need to get the correct size belts(belts come in kit form,eg.two or three belts in a packet depending on type of player).TRY google for belts for your unit. One other thing to check is a capstan pully wheel, this,on some small cassette players, without a cassette inserted look at where the tape goes and you should see a small solid tyre type wheel.this tyre wheel pulls the tape along
at a constant speed during play and this rubber tyre will
become shiny thus it will slip during play.CLEAN this rubber tyre until it looks non shiny, this can be done by
a cloth and any audio cleaning fluid..hope this gets you on the way to recovery.Tom
