vauxhall astra milage?

my milage display has disappeared on my t reg 1.4 vauxhall astra what is the cause of this?
i can get it back up by disconneting the battery and reconneting but it then disappears again after about a week

i have infact fixed this fault and found it to be the crankshaft timing sensor had oil and grease on it causing a bad signal you then disconnect and reconnect the battery lead to reset it.
before doing any of this if the vehicle also occasionally doesn't start properly see if the vehicle bump starts and if it does then this is a faulty sensor which would need replacing
