recoding my Mercedes A class key?

my A class did the same, you have to take the key in to mercedes and they can test it to see if its sending a signal. they told me the key sent an infra-red and a radio signal to the car (think thats what they said anyway) and the part that was bust on mine couldnt be fixed..... £160 and two weeks later i had a new key :( you also need to take ID and your V5 to get a new key
