Can anyone help with a leak from the body of a garden tap?

My garden tap is leaking from the threads (not the spout) where the body of the tap joins the supply pipe (i.e. before the tap valve arrangement). I've tried removing the tap and rewrapping the thread on the tap connection with PTFE tape, but to no avail.
Any other ideas?
