bulb/element on both brake light remain on?

if the brake lights are staying on then one of the switches must be connected inside either due to a fault with the switch or the way it works.disconnect each switch one at a time and see which one puts the light out if neither one does then you have a wiring fault.all the switch does is bridge the live feed from the ignition live to the thicker of the two rear light bulb elements.
