how can i fix my electric window on a renaul megane?

my 98 megane's driver side window does not raise up....it lowers ok but i have to manually raise it and wedge it closed with folded cardboard.....i have been told to get a new regulator but don't want to go to that expence if theres something else i could try first....please help
